Melissa's blurb in FHM (July 99)

Thanks to Donald Lancon Jr for typing this up for me, I couldn't be bothered when I did the scan..

In '88 she starred opposite Soleil Moonfrye of 'Punky Brewster' fame in the forgettable 'Running With Scizzors'. She's known for being 'Sabrina: The Teenage Witch' yet she's made the transition to movies playing opposite Jen Love Hewitt in 'Can't Hardly Wait' and swings into the upcoming 'Next to You'. With a mum who's an agent and producer and a dad who's a TV exec the 23-year-old had no hope. "Growing up in showbiz wasn't normal but it's what I know."

Here's Donald's analysis of the text:

I just wanted to say that the text in the smaller pic from FHM is one of the most mistake-ridden blurbs about MJH I've ever seen:

Now, bear with me as I state the obvious:

1. RWS would have come out in 1998, not 1988.
2. RWS never did come out, which is probably why it was so forgettable.
3. It's 'Running With Scissors'.
4. It's Soleil Moon Frye.
5. They're obviously trying to imply that Melissa was destined to get into showbiz because of her "showbiz parents", but of course, in a sense, Melissa got _Paula_ into showbiz, not the other way around! :-) And she didn't have a TV-exec dad (stepdad) until she was already starring in CEIA (I don't know what he did before he married Paula, so I can't say whether he, too, in a sense, got into the business through his affiliation with Melissa).

Anyway, that's an incredible number of errors and misleading statements for a three sentence blurb! (Of course, this phenomenon is not limited to Australian copy writers, but this was just an especially egregious example.)

BTW, I believe this is the first time I've seen SMF's name being linked with RWS. I'm wondering whether it's true. The IMDb lists her in the cast, but I don't remember her being there the last time I looked at the entry. Couldn't find her name in list mail from the last 18 months, either. Since the mag could have gotten their info from the IMDb, and the IMDb just contains whatever info people submit, I'm a little dubious.

Anyone know any more about this before I ask Hartbreak Films about it?

Again, Thanks Donald.

BTW, here's the other picture of Melissa that appeared in this issue of FHM:
